CASTLE OF SAN GIUSTO

How would you like to take a walk along the walls of San Giusto Castle? For a few moments you would feel like the ancient lords of old, who erected such fortresses precisely to ensure control, even with just a glance, of the entire city below.

His story

The hill of San Giusto, on which the Castle stands, has been the designated site for a fortress since Roman times because of its strategic location.
In the present case, the Castle of San Giusto dates back to the 15th century and owes its construction (it is the first part to come into being, the Imperial Captain’s House) to the forced reward that the people of Trieste owed to Frederick III of Habsburg for placing one of his Caesarean captains there to guard and protect the city.

The Cathedral of Trieste

In the same square from which the Castle is accessed, you can visit the Cathedral of St. Just, the city’s main church.

From the Albergo alla Posta to San Giusto Castle

Starting from theAlbergo alla Posta, you can walk directly to St. Just Castle (about one kilometer away).
However, for those who prefer to take a more leisurely hike, we recommend taking the bus across the street in Piazza Oberdan and then walking back, enjoying the pleasant descent and the spectacular panoramic view of Trieste.

The Museum

It was not until the 1930s that people began to realize the great tourist significance of St. Just Castle, whose spaces were reorganized. Today the atrium and outdoor spaces, the Chapel of St. George, the Honor Staircase, the Caprin Antechamber, the Armory and the Tergestine Lapidarium can be visited.
